Be Consistent: Model the life of Christ

The difficulty of maintaining a steady spiritual momentum in our society can be a journey. Perhaps, you work, maybe you are an entrepreneur, a student, have a family, serving in ministry or trying to get to the gym. Sure, all those items are important;however, without quiet time our spiritual maturity becomes stagnant.

The power of God in your life is most effective when you practice consistency; like Christ in quiet time as seen in Mark 1:35. Another demonstration of the consistency of Christ is in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Are you modeling the life of Christ?

Answer the call, become consistent daily in prayer, and reading the Scriptures as you walk in faith; those are keys to a perfect heart towards God.  What about the interruptions? How are they managed? We must become intentional about the spiritual health of our souls. Schedule God in each day and meditate on that experience throughout the day.

My friends , don’t be discouraged by those who spend large quantities of time in the Word and prayer, that will come as you become more consistent . . . just start and continue.  No, I am not saying you are a robot, praying and reading out of routine; however, with faithful consideration of God’s desire to fellowship with you; there should be a sense of a continuous pulling toward the presence of the Father.

Consistency results in becoming grounded in faith. Is America losing connection with God because of inconsistent spiritual lifestyles practices? What is interrupting your time with God?

Colossians 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven;

Set The Pace!

Run, jog or walk you are free from your past.

Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us,” Hebrew 12:1 AMP

It is important to have a mentor whether in business, school, church or a family member; however, don’t become so consumed with others accomplishments that you lose sight of your goals and purpose in the heat of the  speed of life.  The race of achievement is not given to the swift nor the strong but to the one that endures (Matt. 24:13). So in this race you may stumble or fall; someone might trip you up, but stay the course of destiny by setting your pace.

Sure, the Matthew passage encourages you to persevere until the end to be saved – to obtain eternal life. Yet, Salvation in this life offers many amenities: health, wealth, a good life and success in all forms.  Look around you and see how many of our brothers and sisters testimonies of greatness provide margins of hope . . . the results of reaching their goals.

Learn to strip your life of time stealers, confusing discussions, discouragers, and unhealthy habits; whatever clings to you preventing endurance – Let it Go!  Set your pace press toward you’re appointed destiny.

Let’s talk about how do you set your own pace to accomplish task

The Old Testament book, Song of Solomon is eight chapters of love poetry so it’s a fair question to ask: What does this book have to do with answering the question “What Matters Most?” The opening chapter The Self seemed as though it may be difficult for me to believe that I would find the answer. It was in the middle of my read that I chose as alternative titles Is He Me? For chapter one and for the book, Sex: When It Matters, It’s the Most! Nonetheless, I resolved to trust the author since I have enjoyed reading her blog and other books in years past.

On the website TrinityWholenessMinistries.com a summary of my notes that were written in the margins of my book along with the author’s words that I either underlined, placed checked marks next to, many stars and every once in a while I drew a happy face to hopefully bring attention to the text at a later time during our virtual discussions on conference call with women globally or after service chats with the women of Allen Chapel Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

One last thing, I hope that you have read the Song of Solomon in a contemporary version prior to delving into Dr. Renita Weems’ commentary of it. If you have not yet purchased her book, please do but if you cannot just join the call. Remember on the website TrinityWholenessMinistries.com  notes will be available and reflective questions from the book that will be discussed  .

Rev. Dr. Renita Weems writes as though she is having afternoon tea at your house and you’ve made the children go outside, because grown folks are talking. Besides being a wife and mother for those who do not know who she is, she is a scholar and a preacher, with a Ph.D. in Old Testament Literature.

We are in a new quarter of 2014 and it is important that you stop and review your health status. How are you physically, emotionally and spiritually? Have you had a physical with clinical lab testing? What about a routine dental appointment? Ladies you don’t have to wait until breast cancer awareness month to perform a self-breast exam (SBE). How many have had a mammogram?

Finally, I trust that you are eating a balance meal and consuming more water and less sugary drinks. Have you taken time to walk in your neighborhood for 15-30 minutes each day? If your mind is fuzzy take a walk .. it’s good for the body and  mind.

Kingdom people don’t just schedule appointments that are broken…. go to see your health care provider. Honestly, how can you be effective if your temple (body) is in ruins? Just asking.

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”     Joshua 1:9

Take Authority of Your Life

The phrase “I’ll do it all differently!” is the sentiment of thousands the first week of the New Year as planners are purchased and calendars reviewed.   Each new year the same thoughts and struggles are evident by the end of the first quarter of the year.  Beyond just saying “I’ll do it all differently” – you actually can!  Today I recommend that you downsize your life and focus on you.  It is not selfish. “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start now and make a brand new ending.” – Carl Bard

Change Demands Attention to Priorities

First, daily quiet time is a primary source of spiritual self-care.  Secondly, consideration of your mental health and development is necessary for emotional stability, and lastly attention to your physical health and wellness, which all combine to create the essence of who you really are.  It is essential to your personal productivity and fulfillment of your life’s purpose to live in harmony with yourself.  Taking time for you decreases the volatile effects of undue stress on spirit, mind, and body.

Try one or more of these exercises: set aside quiet time (even if for brief periods); purchase a coloring book and color a page each day; or take a walk and turn your cell phone off.  These exercises will relax and renew each component of your being by nurturing the spirit, mind, and body. When scheduling your day, week or month, ask yourself a few questions: “God, is this your will?”, “How is this task going to prepare or assist me in my journey?”;  and “Do I really have the time to do this?”.   It is important to remember that it is OK (and not ungodly) to say, “No, I cannot do this at this time.”

It is Up to You (to Make and Keep Your Commitments to Change)

Retrain your responses, and do not allow yourself to be bullied by guilt or manipulated into accepting tasks you are not predestinated to do. Yes, you may have the gifts and skills; however, is it what God wants you to do?   During the process of downsizing your life, you will begin to find and schedule time for tasks that you have desired to do for years.

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”    ― Andy Warhol

“The steps of a good man (or woman) are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

The Roller Coaster Ride

Thanks to all of you who responded to the blog Q &A on the topic: How to end a year and how to begin a new one.   Many of you answered, “I don’t know, but if someone does, please post a comment”, while another general statement made by others was “I DON’T KNOW, BUT WANT TO (know how)!” from the responses that came directly to my email address.

If you are in a dry place in life or on dealing with many unexpected situations, you can get off the “roller coaster ride” of incompleteness.  Take a moment and revisit your current year- briefly, and without regrets.  During your evaluation you will realize there are tasks that you started and completed; other tasks you just thought about or researched; and many you started, but you were sidetracked by other things and were unable to complete the primary task.   Perhaps these were tasks that you know you should have never attempted, but you were trying to be a blessing to someone or to an organization, resulting in lost time on those God-given projects that were your specific assignments.

What about your self-care during the year (health assessments, exercise and food choices)?  The ability to hear and execute the plan and fulfill your purpose requires that you are in condition physically as well as spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. What is your current health status?

Lastly, review relationships and network building during 2013 or previous years. How have you rated in terms of your character?  What is your level of humility?  Are you demonstrating forgiveness?   Sisters, you know we can hold grudges and have smiling faces.  If you are wondering what all this has to do with plans, purpose and pursuit of passion being achieved – everything!  Health and wellness in regard to every aspect of your being is fundamental to  success.

Discovering the route to living in harmony with oneself can be very difficult without proper guidance and support.  Women in particular are nurturers and servants who can become easily distracted if they do not develop a plan that follows the instructions gleaned in quiet time with Him, and have an accountability partner to aid in redirection.  So how do you end the year and start a new one?  Start in prayer, and counseling (discussion) and listening with an open heart and mind. You need a plan – write the vision and make it plan.

During the month of December and on into the New Year of 2014 there will be a virtual discussion centered on re-evaluating our call in life as it relates to passion, purpose, and the plan of God.  You will need a journal, Bible, accountability partner, and a calendar.  In the meantime, you can also go online and take a free spiritual gift assessment test.    For more information (discussion outline and conference call code) send an email to: Karynthia@yahoo.com.

From My Heart to Yours:

“No longer will they call you deserted, or name your land desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah (my delight), and your land Beulah; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married.” Isaiah 62:4 NIV

WOW - Beauty Is In Balance!

Congratulations! Many of you have been fasting for spiritual reasons, and detoxification. Perhaps you are fasting as a resolution or ritualistic habit for the New Year. It is past the 21 day mark of January in which many say you can break a habit and form a new habit. Hopefully, some good lifestyle modifications have been practiced and you are on your way to a healthier – better you.

I would like you to start with me today 40 days of becoming a W.O.W – oh yeah a “Woman of Wellness”. The scriptures clearly speak to being wise, “A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel. Proverbs 1:5 NKJV” In other words before starting an exercise or weight loss regimen see your health care provider.

Don’t start any workout program especially if you have health issues or have not seen your PCP in the last 1-2 months. In the meantime those of you who are ready to get moving remember “Whatever you eat or drink, or whatever you do, you must do all for the glory of God. I Cor. 10:31NLT”. If you are just starting take it slow and do what is best for you. Take small steps toward correcting habits that can lead to the destruction of your health.

You have to choose life each day.  Start by going to bed in enough time to get 7-9 hours of sleep so that you can wake up an hour early for quiet time (personal prayer, bible reading and meditation) and take a walk for 30 minutes. Start eating fresh fruits and vegetables and less fast foods. There are so many thoughts about water consumptions so be sure to get 6-8 glasses per day. Please take time to smile and show kindness.

Have a photograph taken of yourself and watch the transforming power of faith and work.  In 40 days family and friends will say, WOW if you stay faithful. I didn’t say some days you will not mess up.   Just get up and focus forward, forget the past and remember the greater one is inside to help you.

Your health is important- join W.O.W (Women of Wellness) sponsored by Trinity Wholeness Ministries a group of women that promote healthy living. What lifestyle modifications are you implementing?  I walked 3 miles today! Let’s Talk: What did or will you do for better health today?
